You ever have a fancy meal that you can appreciate but it's just not what the doctor ordered? That's how You Won't be Alone left me feeling. It's a beautiful film, that is about witches, and life and other stuff. It's not really a horror movie, even though it's about witches, so if that makes no sense, I can't help you much. I'm not mad at this movie for trying to be something bigger than it is, but I think I'll stick to the tried and true horror tropes instead.

Plot summary
Set in an isolated mountain village in 19th century Macedonia, You Won't Be Alone follows a young girl who is kidnapped and then transformed into a witch by an ancient spirit. Curious about life as a human, the young witch accidentally kills a peasant in the nearby village and then takes her victim's shape to live life in her skin. Her curiosity ignited, she continues to wield this horrific power in order to understand what it means to be human.

Dark, slow, disturbing, poetic, beautifully shot, tender, makes you ponder your existence, and one of the best portrayals of a witch I have seen.

I was impressed by the unusual storyline as a woman attempts to fit in with normal people even though she is a witch with abnormal abilities. The cast is excellent and scenery spooky. Rapace leads the ensemble and everyone is up to the task. The film is in Serbian and the subtitles are at times not grammatically correct. Even so, I rank this as a top tier horror movie.

This is not a horror, it is a folk tale. If you're looking for spooky look elsewhere. That said, on first watch, this culminated into one of the most beautiful pieces of work I've ever seen. Let me say that again -- This is a beautiful film.

plazov Macedonia is a geographical region. Greece owns 50% of this geographical area, the former Skopje and now the Republic of Northern Macedonia own 40% and Bulgaria owns 10%. There is no state named "Macedonia". The name of the state is "Republic of Northern Macedonia" or "Northern Macedonia". Is the geographical designation "North" necessary, otherwise the largest part of the geographical area of ??Macedonia, which belongs to Greece, what should it be called? ..... Southern Sweden? There is also no Macedonian language. What is now called the "Macedonian language" is a mixture of Slavic dialects. Alexander the Great, as a true Macedonian, spoke ancient Greek and the tomb of Alexander's father is located in Greek territory.
Most of the language spoken in the film is an old Macedonian dialect spoken in the southwest of R.Macedonia and possibly still spoken in the northern parts of Greece near the border with Macedonia. Yet, the speech is turned into a poetic expression rather than natural speech. On the other hand, part of the speaking of the old witch to the young witch is in a language which is not familiar and to me it sounds something like old Romanian.
What a strange and yet profound movie. The perspective of a being starting from a fresh slate and being able to experience life through the eyes of many different beings was really touching to me and sad as well.
