Careful with the friends you pick...
Located in Latvia, two friendly single guys neighbors go out in the town, get drunk and slam their car into a woman biker on their way back. From that point on, human nature takes over on both sides of the spectrum...
Kudos to the Direction and Jonathan Rhys-Meyers for his nice guy turned Psycho performance.
The whole movie has a solid feel to it, well-paced with ambiguous situations and intriguing contradictions, it tags along confidently.
Recommended.
Plot summary
American journalist, David/Luke Kleintank starts a new job in Riga, Latvia, for his old friend Grant/Bruce Davison at European Press Network. The job comes with a big, old, furnished house and Grant's other BMW car. When his car won't start, he rings on his new neighbor's doorbell and meets Robert/Jonathan Rhys Meyers. Robert helps him with the car and they take the car for a spin and become friends. Next evening they go to a nightclub where David meets Janine from London and gets her phone number. Driving home, David accidentally hits a dark bike rider on a backroad. It turns out to be Janine. Robert, a nurse, tries to help her but she's dead. He convinces guilt-ridden DUI David to drive away without reporting it. Robert later drives the car into a lake. At work David covers the hit and run attending the police press conference where Janine's sister asks him to help find witnesses and the culprit.

A Cautionary Tale And Subtly-Constructed Thriller
Beware of thy neighbor
Two neighbors strike up a friendship that quickly spirals out of control when an accident happens that changes both lives. This movie, while a little predictablble in the sense, that as a viewer you know that this friendship can't end well, is straight forward, and was well done. Johnathan Rhys Meyers definetly carries it, but the other actors are ok too. Pacing sometimes a little slow, but overall good.
A nicely paced thriller...
Sitting down to watch the 2021 thriller "The Good Neighbor" was because I had the opportunity to do so. I hadn't even heard about this movie from writer Ross Partridge and director Stephan Rick prior to watching it. But I will say that the movie's synopsis sounded interesting enough to catch my attention. And also the fact that the movie had Jonathan Rhys Meyers on the cast list helped to sweeten the deal.
The storyline in "The Good Neighbor" was good and well-written. Sure, it was somewhat generic at certain aspects and it was somewhat predictable, but it actually made for good entertainment. There was something 'old school thriller' about the way that the story was constructed and brought to life on the screen.
The acting performances in the movie were good, and lead actors Luke Kleintank and Jonathan Rhys Meyers were nicely cast for the leading roles. I was especially impressed with Jonathan Rhys Meyers' performance, because he was superbly cast for that particular role and he brought the characters to life in a very realistic and believable manner.
If you enjoy thrillers, then you definitely should give "The Good Neighbor" a chance, should you have the opportunity to watch it. I was genuinely surprised and entertained with this movie from director Stephan Rick. While the movie is entertaining and watchable, it hardly is a thriller that you will watch more than once, simply as the storyline doesn't have enough layers and contents to support more than a single viewing, as this first viewing leaves nothing else to be discovered.
The ending of the movie, now that was a slap to the face with a cold, dead face. I didn't enjoy that ending one bit.
My rating of "The Good Neighbor" lands on a six out of ten stars.

How Rhys has fallen... If you thinking August Rush, dont. Low budget, poor acting from Kleintank, average from Meyers and a plot and script that a 13 year old could have bettered.
The drama, the dramaaaaa. It's so much layers piled over layers. To the extent where relationships are formed just so that they can create more dramaaaa. Oh my.
Utter rubbish, low budget again
Wow! Was good than expectaions, must watch.
Thank you! It's a great thriller. Luke Kleintank is the absolute eye-candy to look at. Jonathan Rhys Meyers is great as always. I really enjoy this movie.
