Purple Hearts is messy. The political and socialist commentary that the film starts off with is dropped half way through for a romance story that's unrealistic given the differences between both characters established at the beginning of the movie.
Are we really suppose to believe that a man who views a girl as a "liberal nut" is going to fall in love with her? Likewise, are we suppose to believe that a liberal latina is going to fall in love with a conservative white man who dislikes her views?
Apparently, yes, because the guy get's injured in combat and the girl nurses him back to health and they eventually forget why they disliked each other at first due to some insane plot armour. The writing was not good.
The use of several romance tropes like marriage of convenience, enemies to loves, and long distance relationships helps to create palpable chemistry between the leads but it isn't enough to ignore the plot holes in this movie. I'm begging writers to STOP including social/political commentary in their work if they aren't going to do it right.

A shallow, escapist romance.
Luke Warm
Nicholas Galitzine is excellent in every movie I've seen of his, but I feel like he's never gotten the right role in the right movie at the right time to propel him to the proper level of success and status which he deserves. I don't want to get into the negative opinions I have about this movie. I think its flaws are apparent, and I don't think it's necessary to drag down the hard work everyone clearly did. I just wish Nicholas was given a meatier role in a A-list project, so more people could appreciate his talent.
Ok but the music....
I enjoyed this movie even tho it was a bit predictable. Very good story, the music was great BUT her singing was annoying! I could only understand 1/2 the words. Stop trying to be so breathy. Just sing.

Love starting on the wrong footing & love proves them wrong in the end. You connot fight the power of love. it is such a powerful force...you just let it flow. Lovely movie.
This feminist movie .... this basically is telling you how to defraud the u.s. government... damn gold diggers
I can't believe IMDB gave it 6.9. I didn't made it past 20 minutes it was so bad...
What's with the camilla cabello/ selena gomez wanna be singing/ voice and stuff. pffft. This movie was cringey. I fought tso hard to not remove it within the first 10 mins. But sat through it. Her acting was painful to watch at times. ahr.. anyways.
I have to admit, I liked this movie more than I thought I would. It actually addresses 2 issues that bother me. The first is the cost of drugs, especially common ones like insulin that millions of people depend on. The price is kept high due to nothing more than corporate greed. With that said, there are programs out there that make perceptions affordable. Sofia Carson’s character could have found this out from her doctor or a quick web search. No need to defraud the US government. This leads me to my second issue. People who are married in the military have way more benefits than single people. Married people are provided a free place to live on base, or the pay you receive is basically doubled to cover housing. Think about it, where else can two people doing the same job be paid so differently? I have actually known about people who have done this, both in the military. They would be assigned to different locations, all the while both getting double pay.
A great movie! If you enjoyed "A star is born" with Lady Gaga, then this should be your thing as well. A great love story.
Expected it to be boring because that's what Sofia Carson has basically always been to me but it wasn't so bad. Plus Nicholas Galitzine is pretty fine in a military uniform... His character may be a jerk, but at least a handsome one :D Anyways, a romantic movie that's not far away from being realistic
Why say the bar is in Austin, TX if it looks nothing like TX and is actually shot in LA?
