I don't understand the bad reviews on this film. This film is representing today's society and explaining that most things on social media is fake and how far people are willing to go to get followers.
We are living in a shallow society and it is sad.
This film picks up on the desperation of this generation.
I think Zoey plays this extremely well.
Some people don't realise the down fall and the negative impact that this can have on you and this film shows how a rise and fall can affect you mentally and personally and it really is such ashame for society and this film explains that.........
Plot summary
Danni Sanders (Zoey Deutch), an aimless aspiring writer with no friends, no romantic prospects and - worst of all - no followers, fakes an Instagram-friendly trip to Paris in the hopes of boosting her social media clout. When a terrifying incident strikes the City of Lights, Danni unwittingly falls into a lie bigger than she ever imagined. She "returns" a hero, even striking up an unlikely friendship with Rowan (Mia Isaac), a real trauma survivor dedicated to societal change, and scooping up the man of her dreams Colin (Dylan O'Brien). As an influencer and advocate, Danni finally has the life and audience she always wanted. But it's only a matter of time before the façade cracks, and she learns the hard way that the Internet loves a takedown.

I don't get the bad reviews
If only this was a horror movie.
I liked the main character at the beginning, before her 'epiphany' to conform to the putrid world of dimwits all around her. Every supporting character is a grotesque idealogue, one detestable stereotype after another, constantly. I know it's intentional, but there is nobody to root for in the whole movie. If I was the main character in this world, I'd become serial killer in about 5 seconds. Unfortunately, that doesn't happen and instead the movie tells a boring story about a lie that gets out of control.
The soundtrack is embarrasing. Cinematography is by-the-book. Direction is sub-TV. The only saving grace is the acting chops of Deutch, who does the best she can with the braindead slop that serves as a script.
Any claim that this is parody or satire falls flat. There's no commentary here, it's nothing more than a loose collection of the writer/director's opinions disguised as endless virtue-signalling.
Pretty superficial but good message.
This entire movie is a cringe fest but in a good way. However, I couldn't help but wonder that this idea could have been fleshed out more or executed better.
I really love stories about what it means to be a good person, and the mistakes that people make and how easy you can hurt someone profoundly and repeatedly if you're a bad person like Danni is in this film. And especially if it involves social media.
Danni is a stereotypical highly privileged white girl who will do anything for the attention of flashy, internet famous superficial douches, failing to impress her boss and has no friends, because she is incredibly out of touch, needy and quirky in a really irritating way.
And she gets far worse when a lie that she tells online spins accidentally out of control.
I will say that Danni shouldn't really take all the blame for what she does. The culture around internet famous people surrounding tragic events or bullying incredibly misplaced and toxic, and talk show hosts and social media sites treating them like celebs 100% adds fuel to the fire of people's ever growing egos, or pushes people to act out in heinous ways. Much like in the film, Nightcrawler, Jake Gyllenhaal's character becomes a full on monster because of the competitive nature of the job - which will give him fame and satisfaction.
This could have been much better, but it honestly isn't anything special. Much like many personas of annoying privileged people online, it's only surface level stuff.

It is sad that the new generation these days their form of gratification is through social medias, while some Gen X & Millennials are starting to abandon and delete theirs, and the Boomers are starting to pick it up. I feel sad for those people who watches and follow these "influencers" since you are basically just watching commercials. I feel bad as well for these"influencers" because the reality of it they are nothing more than glorified social climbers. Movie is boring... I stopped watching it thirty minutes in to the movie. Great copy, FREEMAN.
This isn't what you'd think - a narcissistic girl wants more internet popularity so lies about being in a terrorist attack. She gets exposed, and becomes a global pariah with no forgiveness. No happy ending for her. This isn't political, but very leftist/woke casting, with comedy. Pretty good acting
Liberal youth losers. Not much fiction here
Do the arm thing hehehehhehe Cx
Great movie. Don't listen to the haters. Thank you Freeman
Travels all the way to Paris just to get upvotes from strangers on the internet. Are zoomers really like this?
It is actually a good movie. these people in the comments are bunch of 50 yr olds
Worth watching! i enjoyed myself through the whole movie. Mia isaac who plays Rowan is probably the star of this movie! new talent we surely gonna see more often now.
Looks like a good way to learn new tricks on photography
I don't care about comments when it's come to Zoey movies
Thor love and thunder
yeah the movie is not okay
The movie isn't a new concept. The lie involving people telling others they have been somewhere/done something they haven't has been around since Adam told Eve "Oh yeah, you took a bite out of the apple? Well, I took one first, and G-d was A-ok with it..he just doesn't like you." The only difference with this movie is it used social media to spread the lie like wildfire, instead of the much slower word-of-mouth option.
Splench!!!
During the making of Not Okay, Nadia Alexander proposed to her long-time girlfriend Quinn Shepherd, the movie's writer/director, at Lincoln Center, on September 8, 2021, in front of friends and castmates (and one Lincoln Center guard). She said,"NO!"
Had to stop the trailer & watch the full thing - great movie :)
