Really, the story and writing were terrible. I felt no real connection to the characters. The story didn't flow well, and their actions really didn't make sense half the time. Very disconnected. It seemed like they wanted the main story to be about following their dreams, and yet that really didn't gel in the movie. Especially when her dream was to write a movie script, but most of what she read out loud was descriptive words like a novel, not dialogue. It didn't even sound like a script. We never had any idea of what her story was. And there just wasn't any development of the characters. I didn't have a reason to care about any of them. Except maybe the animals. I suppose if you like watching a pretty young woman in very tight, skimpy clothes, this movie might be worth watching for you. Otherwise, I'd skip it.
I don't claim to be a writer, so my review probably sounds as disconnected as this movie.
Plot summary

Who is writing this schlock??
First, please try to hire capable actors. I'm so sorry, but Natalie Hall can't act. (And don't get me started on the curled tendrils of hair that hang like Cocker Spaniel ears on either side of her head. Is that done by hair and makeup?? Please pluck that uni-brow!)
Secondly, please hire writers with at least one original thought. Seriously, at one point, it was evident the writers had Googled "sayings" and used those to write the dialogue.
Ted: "You know what they say (insert saying)."
Angie: "Well, my Dad used to say (insert saying)."
Third, if you're going to use a talking parrot how about getting a parrot who actually talks instead of a lame voice actor. Do you really think we're buying that voice is the bird's?? Not for a second.
Fourth, please stop with the weird "trying to be funny/happy" dances or jumping around segments that only last seconds. They are NOT funny or engaging and it's excruciatingly obvious you're padding the time you can't fill. If only you had some original, creative content!!
I couldn't finish watching it. It made me cringe. I have more productive and actually enjoyable things to do. I would imagine you do, too.
I suggest you pass on this one. I wish I had. If you want to watch a much better Hallmark movie, watch "The Christmas Waltz," or nearly any Lacey Chabert movie.
Kind of silly but okay
Apparently, in Chicago you can't get three things: a job, a boyfriend and an apartment. Angie is lucky enough to get the last won, which she won in a lottery. There she meets Ted, who she is instantly attracted too. One day, a parrot flies into her apartment which has a no pet policy.
It was a cute, okay movie. Kind of silly, but enjoyable nonetheless. Natalie Hall is Hallmark leading lady material and she proves it time and time again. Our leading man was not bad either.
This story was original, not something we have seen before. I'm glad Hallmark is trying new things. I like that the story developed at a nice pace: first neighbours, then complicits, friends and then finally a love interest. The "villains" of the story are ok.
My favorite part was the ending. It is quite funny and wasn't expecting it. I won't watch it again but it definitely pushed me to watch more movies Natalie's in.
